Samuel Langhorne Clemens, known far better by him pen name Mark Twain, was born on this day. One of, if not the, quintessential American author, Mark Twain is most fondly remembered for his novels The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, but his literary legacy included novels, short stories and essays, and perhaps more importantly, a distinctly American voice, heard in works that would be read and enjoyed around the world.
