Yesterday was Dr. Seuss' birthday. On today's Cartoon Saturday, we remember that while the Grinch may be the most successful Seussian character to appear in animated form, the first major animated outing by the most successful Seussian character of all, The Cat In The Hat, was none too shabby, either.

With art direction by Chuck Jones, catchy songs, voice talent like Allan Sherman, Thurl Ravenscroft and Daws Butler, the animated Cat In The Hat is a real treat, even though it's rarely seen on television.

Pictured above is the book, a treat in its own right.

The picture posted is not a first edition Cat In The Hat. Please see First Edition Cat In The Hat Identification Points for photo and points.

Thank you Stan for illustrating the following point: you should not buy anything referenced on this blog even if you can use the picture to reverse-figure-out the item listing. For our purposes we just take the item description as written by the seller to figure out wha's in the picture. That copy was said to be a first edition, so we took their word for it. It was just a jolly picture of The Cat, so we opted for that particular item's picture.

Honestly we'd feel guilty if you bought anything we use, since we're not trying to help anyone sell anything (and since nobody would even thank us if we did, we'd rather you didn't... we're selfish that way).

Incidentally, that's quite an informative site linked to, although the details there raise a very interesting question, which is this: how in the world could anyone actually verify an actual first edition of anything on eBay? Pretty scary when you see some of the prices on "first editions" that don't go for much in the way of proof.

Anyhow, lest anyone be confused, we changed the photo description to something more vague. (Should anyone be tuning in late, it originally said "Pictured above is a first edition of the original book," as that's what the item description claimed... unless of course we grabbed two covers and posted the wrong one...).
